Everyone knows than man has eaten birds and wild fowl as early as he learned how to hunt. But what about eggs? How did egg preparation come about?
Historical records show that as early as 3200 BC, wild fowl were being domesticated in India. These fowl were shown laying eggs for people in Ancient Egypt and China way back in 1400 BC. In Europe, documents talk about domesticated hens back in 600 BC. It was also believed that in North America, although fowl had roamed the land, it was Christopher Columbus who brought the first chickens used for egg production and egg preparation.
At the start of the 20th century, backyards were set up in such a way that made egg farms possible. This was around the first time in modern history that selling eggs became a profitable endeavor as preparation began to become sophisticated. Farms slowly but surely became bigger.

The problem now was how the bigger farms would deal with the problems plaguing poultry such as weather and predators. This was where the science of genetics came in. The strongest chickens were bred with each other, and only the genes of the healthiest chickens were passed down. Science also came out with a variety of food and medication to keep these layers of eggs healthy and disease-free and safe.
